Journey Through Morocco
In Spring of 2023, my family and I spent 10 days touring Morocco. At the time, I only had an iPhone and GoPro to film. I couldn’t bring my drone because the country doesn’t allow them. I'm a believer in Rooster's “It's not the plane, it's the pilot" (Top Gun) mentality which has given me the confidence to create things regardless of my budget. So, even without the ideal setup, I trusted that everything could come together with a good edit. What I lacked in tools, I made up for in creativity and storytelling. While I was confident in my ability to craft a story, I still found myself wondering, what was that story supposed to be?
Since this was a family trip, I didn’t have the same social interactions to rely on for footage. On top of that, the itinerary was more focused on education than adventure, which made it harder for me to edit. My style really relies on action, and this trip didn’t provide much of that. I needed to rethink my approach — more specifically, how I edited my films. I didn’t want to embellish events or gloss over the bad, but I also didn’t want to seem ungrateful or downplay Morocco’s value. After several months and multiple re-edits, I found a sweet spot. Little did I know that an honest recollection of my travels would lead to an honest reflection of myself. I’ve received a lot of positive reception for this movie and I am grateful my message has resonated with so many people.
